About Positive Coaching Alliance
Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) (www.positivecoach.org) is a national nonprofit organization founded at the Stanford University Department of Athletics in 1998 committed to creating a Development Zone™ culture in high school and youth sports where the goal becomes to develop Better Athletes, Better People. PCA takes a systems approach to work with youth sports leaders, coaches, parents and athletes to use the youth sports experience to teach young athletes positive character traits and life lessons.

Through partnerships with more than 3,000 schools and youth sports organizations (YSOs), PCA has conducted 15,000+ live workshops for leaders, coaches, parents and athletes (more than 2,200 live workshops in 2015 alone).

PCA is headquartered in Mountain View (CA), with 17 Chapters in Central Texas, Chicago, Cleveland, Colorado, Hawaii, Houston, Los Angeles, Minnesota, New England, New York City, North Texas, Phoenix, Portland (OR), Sacramento, Seattle, SF Bay Area, and Tampa Bay. PCA also has sales offices in Philadelphia and Washington D.C.

About the PCA-Colorado Executive Director
Positive Coaching Alliance is seeking an entrepreneurial individual to fill the position of Chapter Executive Director (CED) for the Colorado Chapter of PCA. The CED is responsible for the success of PCA in Colorado under the general oversight of the PCA-Colorado Board. The CED will report to the Director of Field Operations.

Duties & Responsibilities
The CED is responsible for the ultimate success of PCA-Colorado, including but not limited to:

Work effectively with the Chapter Board

  • Work with Board to develop, implement and evaluate a long-term strategy for PCA-Colorado
  • Work with Board to raise funds necessary to establish long-term viability of PCA-Colorado
  • Keep the Board informed on financial and programmatic conditions
  • Assist Board members in publicizing and promoting PCA-Colorado through the various networks in creating a “buzz” to enhance success in partnership development, trainer recruitment, fund-raising and special events
  • Work with the Board Chair to schedule, organize agendas and prepare materials for Board Meetings
  • Work with Board Chair and Committee/Task Force Chairs to engage every Board member

Lead and manage PCA-Colorado

  • Recruit, hire & manage PCA-Colorado staff in consultation with the Board and relevant national functional directors; Field Operations, Partner Development (sales), and Development (fundraising) in PCA headquarters to ensure performance standards are met
  • Recruit, hire & manage PCA-Colorado trainers, who are considered contract employees who lead our workshops; organize and lead training sessions on a regular basis for focus on sharpening presentation skills and exchanging ideas on best practices
  • Meet or exceed annual contribution and earned income goals
  • Ensure sound human resource practices are followed, including keeping accurate staff job descriptions and conducting regular performance evaluations
  • Prepare and manage annual budget and execute sound financial practices
  • Maintain official records and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations
  • Keep abreast of best practices in the youth sports field and the nonprofit sector
  • Maintain an organizational culture reflecting the “PCA Way” so PCA-Colorado staff flourish, grow and are successful

Represent PCA-Colorado to the local community

  • Create a sense of excitement about PCA programs in Colorado
  • Reach out to the local media to inform the public about PCA programs and successes
  • Develop relationships with business, philanthropic, academic and government leaders
  • Engage Board members to make introductions to influential individuals and organizations
  • Manage Chapter web site and other social media, as well as edit and publish local newsletter
  • Ensure that Chapter events are conducted in professional and appealing manner

Raise sufficient funds annually for PCA-Colorado to thrive

  • Develop and implement a successful fund-raising plan in conjunction with Board and National Development staff
  • Cultivate relationships with a pipeline of prospects and solicit donors
  • Raise scholarship funds for partnerships with schools and youth sports organizations (YSOs) serving underserved communities
  • Work with the local corporations to support Chapter activities
  • Ensure gifts are acknowledged in a timely manner and actively steward donors
  • Oversee and manage special events to raise funds and gain new donors

Add value to the PCA Movement nationwide

  • Manage local operations in accordance with PCA National procedures
  • Provide input to improving PCA general operating practices
  • Serve as resource to Executive Directors in other Chapters
  • Contribute to PCA as a learning organization

Qualifications & Characteristics of Ideal Candidates

  • Worked or lived in Colorado for minimum five years
  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial mind-set, teachable spirit & willingness to think out of the box
  • Team player who works cooperatively with all staff, especially the national functional managers
  • Proven record of fundraising and experience working with a nonprofit Board
  • Proven relationship builder who knows how to steward and cultivate long-term relationships
  • Proven record of operating an office with full P&L responsibilities
  • 5+ years of senior management experience
  • Outstanding verbal, writing and presentation skill
  • Able to work on weeknights and weekends on occasion
  • Bachelor degree; Masters degree preferred
  • Passion for the PCA cause is essential!

The compensation plan consisting of salary plus annual bonus is commensurate with experience.
